LibGuides Accessibility Statement: Home

The University of Sussex is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. This includes third-party platforms that we use, such as Springshare's LibGuides.

Content on our Online Resources A-Z, Subject Guides and Skills Guides is produced by the University of Sussex Library and hosted on the LibGuides platform provided by Springshare.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use the LibGuides platform. That means you should be able to:

  • access most of the information found on the site
  • zoom most pages in up to 500% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to, and navigate, most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • access all video content, either visually, or through accessible technology.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible, for example some:

  • video content does not have captions
  • video content does not have a transcript
  • pages use tables for layout, which may cause issues for screen readers, and may result in additional scrolling when page text is enlarged
  • images may lack alternative text
  • link text is not descriptive

Technical information about this website

The University of Sussex is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and the exceptions listed above. Some areas of the website which were developed before September 2018 may not meet the AA accessibility standard.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We are providing training and guidance to page authors and are working with them to check and edit their content to remove accessibility issues.

Where accessibility issues are caused by the LibGuides platform itself, rather than the content we have created, we will liaise with Springshare to report the problem and seek a solution.

Preparation of this statement
