Search our online and print collections of Sussex theses
Use Library Search to search for all theses authored by a University of Sussex postgraduate researcher. All theses submitted after October 2009 can be viewed online through Sussex Research Online
The Library holds in print all doctoral theses written by Sussex postgraduate researchers submitted before October 2009. You can use Library Search to search for these.
All print theses are reference-only and can only be read in the library. To request a thesis, please sign-in to Library Search and click the blue Request option on the Locations tab. Collections are at 11am and 3pm daily.
Many older Sussex theses are also now available online to download immediately, and this is indicated on Library Search.
Try the following services to find theses authored by students from other institutions.
EThOS. The EThOS (Electronic Thesis Online Service) service from the British Library is currently unavailable due to a cyber attack and there is no predicted date for it to be reinstated [July 2025]
CORE (Connecting REpositories) is the world's largest collection of open access research papers, including theses.
Google Scholar can be a useful tool to identify potential resources.
Open Access Thesis and Dissertations (OATD) An index of over 7 million records of post-graduate thesis and dissertations published around the world. Index limited to graduate-level theses that are freely available online. .
Proquest Dissertations and Theses: Global is the world's most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, featuring records from more than 70 countries. Full text is offered for most of the dissertations added since 1997. Unlike many of our other resources it also contains some master's theses.
