Elements (New): Managing Grants

Managing Grants

Grants are imported into Elements via a feed from Worktribe which is a research management system designed to support the whole project life cycle from proposal development to post award management. Grants can also feed into Elements via Dimensions, an external data source, that requires users to claim or reject the grant. The Elements team have no control over this grant feed and we therefore cannot add or amend grant information.

If you have a query about why a grant isn't appearing on your Elements profile please consult the box below.

Missing grants

Your Elements profile shows your funded research projects, if this is not showing, there may be several reasons for this;

  • Research funded by commercial organisations / industry partners is rarely shown on Elements. The contract or collaboration agreement with each client will state the terms and whether the partnership can be made available on a public facing website.
  • Research grants which display on Elements will have been made by public funders UKRI, EU, charities etc, and where there are no confidentiality issues. When they are not shown, this may be due to a contract clause not being specific or being part of a large collaboration where Sussex is not leading. Where there is any doubt, it may have been marked as partial restriction and therefore not appear on Elements.
  • If you weren’t assigned an intellectual/credit share the grant will not appear on your profile.
  • Internally funded projects which are run through a school code i.e. funded by an allocation from an internal pot of money.
  • Grants which academics held prior to their time at Sussex i.e. we only display Sussex activities on Sussex systems.

If you have a research grant that isn’t showing on your profile and you think it should be, please email The Research and Innovation Services team at research_support@admin.sussex.ac.uk. The RIS team will be able to investigate this for you.

Please note: Elements’ sister product Dimensions has the functionality to scrape the web and apply grants to individuals in our version of Elements. These may not (validly) appear on Sussex systems or it may contradict the confidentiality clauses in our own systems if the grant is publicly discoverable.
