Teaching and Supervision Activities

This section of your profile allows you to record details of any teaching  and supervision activities you have contributed to, either within the University of Sussex or at an external institution.


Teaching and supervision activity types

Elements supports the capture of information about the following teaching and supervision activities:

Adding a teaching and supervision activity

1. From your Elements homepage, select +ADD NEW under Teaching & Supervision. 

2. Select the  relevant teaching activity type. 

3. Use the fields and the drop-down menu options to include as much information as possible about the activity. Remember to include the date. 

4. Save the activity. 

5. If appropriate, use Relationships to create links between this activity and other Elements objects eg. publications, grants or record of impact.

6. Select the globe icon to manage privacy settings for your teaching activities.


Research-based degree supervision

As well as a summary of your teaching activities, use this section of your profile to record information about any research degree supervision you have undertaken and summarise the areas in which you are interested in supervising PGR projects. Information entered into this section appears in the ‘Teaching and supervision’ tab on your public profile

The supervision activities can be either within the University of Sussex or at a previous institution, but, please consider whether the information shared represents your current interests and focus.

Teaching Summary 

I teach modules in the following areas: 

  • Module A (Undergraduate)
  • Module B (Masters)
  • Module C (Undergraduate)

 

Research Degree Supervision

To date I have supervised X PhDs to successful completion, in the following areas: 

  • Summary of topic A, avoiding specific project titles
  • Summary of topic B, avoiding specific project titles
  • Summary of topic C, avoiding specific project titles

 

I welcome enquires about supervising research degree projects within my broad area of research interests which includes x, y and z.

Note: Unless you have permission, do not provide details of current postgraduate researchers and their specific thesis title; to do so risks GDPR non-compliance. It is OK to refer to the broad areas of research you supervise in. 


Editing your teaching and supervision summary

1. Login to your Elements profile

2. From your Elements homepage, select the option Edit my profile

3. Scroll down to the content box labelled Teaching summary. Information entered in this section will display in the Teaching and Supervision tab on your profile. 

4. Enter information in the box; keep information clear and brief and consider utilising bullet points and other available formatting. Use headers to differentiate between the information about PGR supervision and other information you may wish to include in the Teaching and Supervision section (see example profile above). Note: If the research is ongoing, please ensure that you avoid giving details of exact thesis titles and, unless you have permission, do not give the details of current PGRs; to do so risks GDPR non-compliance. 

5. Scroll down to the end of the section and select the Save button. Your edits will appear on your profile page. 


Adding a research-based degree supervision activity

1. From your Elements homepage, select +ADD NEW under Teaching & Supervision.

2. Select the Research-based degree supervision activity type.

3. Use the fields and the drop-down menu options to include information about the activity. Remember to include the date. Note: If the research is ongoing, please ensure that you avoid giving details of exact thesis titles and, unless you have permission, do not give the details of current PGRs; to do so risks GDPR non-compliance

4. Save the activity. 

5. If appropriate, use Relationships to create links between this activity and other Elements objects eg. grants or record of impact.

6. Select the globe icon to manage privacy settings for your teaching activities.
