The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, observed annually on December 2nd, highlights the global fight against all forms of modern slavery. This day commemorates the adoption of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others in 1949. It calls attention to issues such as human trafficking, forced labor, child labor, and exploitation, which still affect millions worldwide. The day serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance, action, and advocacy to eradicate slavery in all its forms and ensure freedom and dignity for all.
