Getting Setup

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to setup Mendeley.

In order to use the full functionality of Mendeley, follow the steps below.

To get setup, you're going to need to:

 

1. Creating an account

To get setup, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the Mendeley Homepage and create an account.
  2. Stay logged in to your Mendeley account.

2. Downloading the app

To download the software, follow the steps below.

  1. You can download link to the page directly from your account or go to Mendeley homepage and click on Download Mendeley Desktop.
  2. Install the software. Make sure that Word is closed during installation.
  3. If you're using a word processor other than MS Word, you can check compatibility here.
  4. Once the installation is complete, open the desktop app; you'll be prompted to sign in.

3. Installing/Checking word plugin

To check the Word Plugin, follow the steps below.

  1. The Mendeley desktop app will prompt you to install the word plugin if required or go to the file menu and click on Tools ► Install MS Word Plugin
  2. Open Word and you should see an additional option in the 'References' called Mendeley cite-o-matic.

4. Installing web importer

To install the web importer, follow the steps below.

  1. You can link directly from the desktop app from the file menu; go to Tools ► Install Web Importer or go to the Mendeley Homepage 
  2. Install the browser connector for your web browser
  3. Once installation is complete, you'll see a small icon in the top right corner of your browser.
